The Irish have dominated this race in recent years, winning six of the last seven runnings, and the trophy could be going over the pond again, with BOB OLINGER fancied to land the spoils for Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. This strapping son of Sholokhov looked pretty special when winning his sole bumper outing at Gowran 12 months ago and he has done little wrong over hurdles since, building on a fine second behind last year's Champion Bumper scorer Ferny Hollow with two facile victories at Navan and Naas, the latter coming in Grade 1 company. The sky's the limit for this six-year-old at present and he is very much the one to beat this afternoon. Gaillard Du Mesnil arrives following a couple of impressive victories at Leopardstown but he's arguably taking on classier, faster types this time around, and Keskonrisk looks the one that's potentially overpriced. He ran a cracker over 2m behind Appreciate It at Christmas, a time when Joseph O'Brien's runners weren't firing on all cylinders, and may improve for this step up in trip. Challow Hurdle winner Bravemansgame looks best of the English contenders.

MONKFISH will be the banker of the week for many punters and he can duly get the job done. Big and backward in his younger days, he showed how he is improving on the job when battling to win last year's Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and that has turned out to be excellent form. Unsurprisingly, this huge son of Stowaway has gone to a different level again since switching to fences, winning each of his three starts so far this season in impressive fashion, and there appears to be no chinks in his armour. He jumps and travels with ease, isn't short of pace but has stamina in abundance, clearly handles the track and is impossible to oppose in today's contest. Don't be surprised if he's lining up with a favourite's chance in next season's Gold Cup - he's that good. Eklat De Rire is a typically good jumper from the Henry De Bromhead stable and he looks the most likely front runner here. If left alone and getting into a nice rhythm, he could be the one to finish second, while The Big Breakaway clearly has lots of ability but he hasn't looked a natural over fences by any means.

Grand Roi has stepped forward in three outings this season since moving to Ireland and he commands plenty of respect making his handicap debut off 149 with the potential for further progression. Koshari caught the eye when sixth over 3m at the Dublin Racing Festival but his jumping will need to be better dropping back in trip for him to be in the mix. Craigneiche, a winner at Ascot in January, Birchdale and Janika all boast solid credentials for Nicky Henderson but, of his runners, MONTE CRISTO appeals most. The five-year-old shaped in need of his return at Aintree in October before running out an impressive winner at Kempton on Boxing Day. The handicapper put him up 12lb but the manner of that victory suggested he was well ahead of his mark and it would be no surprise to see him take another step forward. Botox Has, who boasts strong course form, Guard Your Dreams, who shaped as though a step up in trip would suit when sixth in the Betfair Hurdle, and Thomas Darby are all capable of making an impact.

CHACUN POUR SOI missed his engagement in this 12 months ago due to a foot abscess found on the morning of the race. Since then, he has been imperious in this division on his three outings this season, building on his return at Cork with bloodless victories at Leopardstown over Christmas and at the Dublin Racing Festival, and this appears the best chance for Willie Mullins to break his Champion Chase hoodoo. Politologue took advantage of the selection's absence and other conspiring factors to make every yard of the running 12 months ago but this will be a much tougher race to control with the likes of First Flow, who took him on at Ascot in January, and Notebook likely to push the pace along. Nube Negra claimed the scalp of Altior at Kempton over Christmas and has been kept fresh for this, while Put The Kettle On saves her best for Cheltenham and is unbeaten in three outings over C&D.

EASYSLAND is difficult to get away from. The French raider struggled to land a blow here in November at cramped odds but he will have been trained for this day and could hardly have been more impressive when beating dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll by 17 lengths in the race 12 months ago. 2019 Welsh Grand National winner Potters Corner is expected to go well with improvement forthcoming for his first effort in this discipline, when finishing a place ahead of the selection in the aforementioned November heat. Le Breuil might be staying on for a place.

Chosen Mate won this last year when a well-backed favourite, but he is 9lb higher now and hasn't shown much this season so far. Young conditional Jordan Gainford is held in high regard in Ireland, though, and his 7lb claim could make a big difference to Denise Foster's charge. Zanza fell three out when last seen here in December and looked to be travelling like the most likely winner on that day. Philip Hobbs' charge has been well backed over the last fortnight and looks to be on a fair mark of 145. Joseph O'Brien holds a strong hand with the in-form pair of Embittered and Entoucas heading the market, but his forgotten runner might be US AND THEM. The eight-year-old finished third in this last year off 1lb higher and second in the Arkle in 2019. He admittedly hasn't shown a lot in two starts this year, but the Stowaway gelding has been treated for ulcers and often comes into his own during the spring. Sky Pirate has looked revitalised over this trip in recent months but there isn't much room for error with his rating of 152.
