He has been raised 7lb by the handicapper for that success, but still holds leading claims. Valadom posted a brave runner-up effort over 3m2f here latest and he should go well from the front end again, while Psychedelic Rock and Dubai Angel are other in-form players to note in a competitive event.

A number of progressive performers here make for a cracking contest. Mount Windsor has won his last four and Fergus Gregory's valuable claim will certainly help him, while Hudson De Grugy and Hooper are both on hat-trick missions and warrant respect. However, GOOD BALL is the least exposed of these and shades the verdict on his handicap debut. This French recruit has posted solid win and runner-up efforts here (both over an extended 2m) since joining Paul Nicholls and today's step up in trip could potentially unlock another gear.

The form of Rose Of Arcadia's Wincanton success is rock solid, with the second and third both successful since, and she must enter calculations, but narrow preference is for MARADA. Dan Skelton's mare built on her second behind the high-class Martello Sky when readily seeing off subsequent winner Pasvolsky at Huntingdon last time and she could improve again for this step up in distance. The consistent Misty Whisky shouldn't be too far away either.

A return to racing left-handed is sure to suit KALOOKI, who is also interesting dropping back in trip having campaigned mainly up at three miles this season. He made all to score over 2m6f here in November and could have the pace to repeat the dose over this slightly shorter distance. Espoir De Teillee and Mr Muldoon both tasted success when last seen, with the latter bringing up his third success of the season with that recent Sedgefield romp. Grand Sancy was a touch disappointing when fancied to run well in the Greatwood Gold Cup over course and distance earlier this month and attempts to get back on track, while John Mackie's Barton Knoll led them along from the front for a long way there and can't be underestimated off a 1lb lower mark.

BOMBYX, a 96-rated recruit from the Flat, made the perfect start to life over hurdles when justifying favouritism with a clear-cut seven-length success at Huntingdon. The margin of victory would have been even further if not for a mistake at the last and could impress once again now tried in deeper waters. Lord Baddesley has been off the track since unseating his rider at Cheltenham in December, but the pick of his form entitles him to plenty of respect, while Market Rasen bumper winner Italian Spirit makes plenty of appeal on his hurdles bow, with Olly Murphy amongst the winners of late.

He is an unexposed chaser compared to most of these, with plenty of scope for improvement, and the manner of his Musselburgh success last time suggests he'll appreciate this extended 2m trip. The main dangers are Shut The Box and Molineaux, who are consistent performers but should also win more often than they do.

If one of them can, Paul Nicholls' charge was very impressive here in November.
