GOLD CUP BAILLY won his sole start between the flags and he displayed plenty of promise when finishing third on his Rules debut at Punchestown last month. If the five-year-old improves for that experience then he should be very hard to beat this afternoon. Lanty Slea has been off the tack for a year but he won his only start in bumpers and should not be underestimated. Others to note are Ahoy Senor and Itsnotyouitsme.

Victory Echo won well over 2m at Newcastle when last seen in December but a 7lb rise for that victory will make his life tougher today. With that in mind, preference is for REIVERS LAD, who still had a big chance prior to falling five out at Haydock last time. That was his first start since 2018 and the 10-year-old is likely to improve, although he will obviously have to put in a better round of jumping. Ardera Cross has won twice at this venue, including over 2m5f in January, and he cannot be discounted.

The eye is drawn to SEVEN EYE BRIDGE because of his unexposed profile, and when you dig a bit deeper you'll find there is a strong case for him being a well-handicapped hurdler. A mark of 116 seems very fair on the basis that he won his maiden by almost 10 lengths at Carlisle and then performed creditably under a penalty over C&D in novice company, a race in which he gave weight and a beating to a 122-rated gelding. He looks the one to be on, but cases can also be made for Doyen Breed and Arnica.

Uncle Alastair is very interesting on his return but would be excused for needing this after 840 days off and the smart money will likely be on SIRWILLIAMWALLACE. His latest efforts at Kelso and Carlisle have been encouraging and, given his running style, he might just appreciate this drop in trip. If he gets a soft lead he could be tough to pass, but keep an eye on his stable companion Milvale.

His breakthrough success over the larger obstacles came over this trip for the first time at Musselburgh last month and it was an impressive performance. Asking For Answers has won two of his last three starts and should appreciate coming back to 3m, while others to note include Skyhill and Slainte Mhor.
