Preview:

Tritonic has some smart Flat form under his belt, including a placed effort at Listed level over 1m3f, and he has taken well to hurdles, stepping up on his Ascot victory when winning the Adonis by 10 lengths at Kempton last time. However, the form of those races looks slightly suspect (runner-up on both occasions beaten at odds-on at Stratford on Monday) and there are almost certainly slicker jumpers in this line-up. Coral Finale scorer Adagio also has a chance for the home team, but the Irish juvenile form looks very strong and ZANAHIYR is taken to edge out former stablemate Quilixios. The latter has done nothing wrong in four starts to date (one in France and three in Ireland) and hopefully a recent switch in yard's won't bother him, but Jack Kennedy keeps the ride on the former (possibly significant as he has been the regular rider on both) and he excites most. The Nathaniel gelding was breathtaking when brushing aside subsequent Boodles second Saint Sam at Fairyhouse in November and, at a time when his stable were under a bit of a cloud, he also won comfortably at Leopardstown over Christmas. The last horse that day, Jeff Kidder, won the aforementioned Boodles on Tuesday, and this lad looks potentially a notch above these rivals. Worrying for the others, a first-time tongue-tie might also eke out some improvement.

Ganapathi, who has been running in Graded company, will appreciate this drop in both class and trip and looks potentially well treated off a mark of 140. A negative, though, would be his lack of experience in a race that will almost certainly be rough. Dan Skelton has won three of the last five runnings of this event (with Willie Mullins collecting on the other two occasions) and he looks to have a chance with Third Time Lucki, who ran well behind subsequent Supreme Novice third For Pleasure here in November. You Raised Me Up made a winning return at Naas last month and is interesting for the shrewd Martin Brassil, but the Irish handicap form could be key here, particularly a race run at the Dublin Racing Festival last month. Drop The Anchor edged out Champagne Gold in the Ladbrokes Hurdle at Leopardstown 41 days ago and both of them are likely to show up well again, but a chance is taken on one from further back that day, ECLAIR DE BEAUFEU, who was a big eye-catcher when staying on for sixth. The seven-year-old appears to be coming to the boil at just the right time and makes plenty of appeal off a mark 10lb lower than when runner-up in last season's Grand Annual Chase.

Paul Nicholls has a pair of contenders in Barbados Buck's, who made it three wins on the spin under a double penalty at Kempton, and gutsy Musselburgh scorer Threeunderthrufive. Both have proven stamina but are up markedly in class here, unlike Stattler, who had Fakiera behind when third in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last time. However, it may be worth taking them on with TORYGRAPH. Denise Foster's gelding had a subsequent Grade 3-placed horse behind when successful at Thurles last time and was giving that rival 12lb too, so looks capable of landing the spoils in this. Alaphilippe was an easy winner when stepped up to this trip in a Grade 2 at Haydock last time and must enter the reckoning, though he's never raced on ground faster than soft under Rules.

ALL BOUM PHOTO prepared for his second Gold Cup success when beating Acapella Bourgeois by six lengths at Tramore last year and did the same thing this term, though the winning margin was 19 lengths this time. Willie Mullins' charge could emulate Best Mate and land a third crown here. A Plus Tard got up late to beat Kemboy in a Leopardstown Grade 1 over Christmas and has to be considered, while the home challenge could be headed by Champ, who beat Minella Indo in the RSA Chase here last year and limbered up for this challenge in somewhat unusual fashion by mixing it with Champion Chase horses in the Game Spirit at Newbury. He fared well over that two-mile trip and could go well here. Thorough stayer Native River might need rain to give him a chance of repeating his 2018 win, while Royale Pagaille is a relatively unknown quantity having started this season in novice chases but he bolted up in the Peter Marsh last time. He looks like he needs deep ground to be at his best, though.

Billaway was beaten 10 lengths behind IT CAME TO PASS in last year's renewal and it is difficult to understand the difference in price between the pair at the time of writing. The latter needed the run last time on ground that was less than ideal, and the 11-year-old will be very well suited to this drying surface under Richie McLernon. He won't be anything like the 66/1 odds of 12 months ago, but still represents some value and will have been trained with this day in mind by Eugene O'Sullivan. Bob And Co has impressed in victory the last twice at Fontwell and Haydock, while Hazel Hill won this in 2019 and looks overpriced after his Ludlow success 57 days ago for Mel Rowley.
