Mick Appleby is a dab hand at finding improvement in his charges and the Irish import SAATTY looks in need of the handler's touch. With the champion jockey booked and the stable in fine form, the son of Markaz can break his maiden tag at the seventh attempt. The largely exposed Taylored could be there or thereabouts as well, while Mick's Spirit has only run three times so is not without hope.

She may be winless since March last year but it may pay to side with PRECIOUS PLUM here on her course record alone. A double winner at the track and a close-up fourth here back in March, she can regain the winning thread under Richard Kingscote. Evergreen stablemate Kyllukey could also be in the reckoning. Captain Ryan is expected to pose the biggest threat, though, after winning at this level at Wolverhampton back in May.

SKY BLUE THINKING was a revelation when bolting up on her first start for Adam West at Wolverhampton last week. Escaping a penalty for that apprentice race win, she can follow up in a similar grade from a nice draw in stall five. Duke Of Prussia did similar a month ago at Dunstall Park but he was beaten under a penalty after that and he's 9lb higher again here. Brazen Bolt and Hunters Step complete the shortlist.

STAR JEWEL has looked a filly right out of the top drawer on both starts thus far and a mark of 89 on handicap debut could greatly underestimate her. She can take this in her stride before going up in grade. Tomouh did the job in fine fashion at Lingfield back in June and her course form could be a big asset here as well, while Star Seeking could be suited by the drop in trip after her second over an extended mile at Nottingham.

POP FAVORITE didn't seem to appreciate the soft ground he encountered on his first two starts for David Brown, but he showed plenty of promise at Lingfield last week and there could be more to come from him. Trepidation may appreciate returning to a mile on the all-weather and looks another leading contender, while Broughtons Chief could also be involved after showing some potential at Wolverhampton on his latest start.

Gauntlet and Soros have run well in some competitive-looking staying handicaps recently and both look to have live chances in this contest. However, DOUBLETHETROUBLE could be well handicapped based on his runs at Nottingham and Yarmouth. He has shaped like he would appreciate the step up to 2m and the application of cheekpieces may bring further improvement, while he seems to act on the all-weather as well and might be able to break his maiden tag at the eighth attempt.

Violette Szabo has been running well at Beverley recently and may be involved if she enjoys the return to an all-weather surface.
