Preview:

Just a 'match' but a competitive one, considering the protagonists are rated within 2lb of each other on official ratings. Of the pair, Mick Pastor has potentially the higher ceiling based on his French hurdles form but he hasn't been overly convincing over fences so far and has something to prove on his return from wind surgery. In contrast, FORECAST looked better than ever when emphatically opening his chase account at Stratford recently following a breathing operation of his own and he looks the safer bet with the Richard Newland yard still in a rich vein of form.

Hard to get too enthusiastic about many of these but there are grounds for giving GAME IN THE PARK consideration after he ran better than the bare form suggested when fourth over 3m at Fakenham last time, as he was hampered around the final turn. Neil King's gelding is rated 8lb lower than his hurdles mark and the fact that he has attracted market support on recent occasions suggests he's thought to be well handicapped. Lawtop Legend floundered in testing conditions at Hexham last time but is a threat judged on his earlier Plumpton win, as is Just Call Me Al if building on his recent third at Market Rasen.

Drying conditions would probably a concern for a few of these, including leading form chances Lies About Milan and Diamond Brig, who have produced their best efforts on soft/heavy ground. EBONY GALE also showed a liking for the mud when opening his chase account at Taunton in March but is more versatile regards ground conditions, having won on good to firm over hurdles. He advertised his present well-being by chasing home Big Nasty on good ground at Southwell last month and the form of that race received a boost when the third-placed horse, Sizing Cusimano, scored decisively at Uttoxeter recently.

Blue Collar Glory sets the standard here having finished a narrow runner-up on soft ground at Stratford on her second start, but she didn't find as much as had looked likely when push came to shove and she may be worth taking on at cramped odds. Bluffmeifyoucan is one alternative after he kept on to grab third here first time out but trainer Stuart Kittow's runners in this sphere are invariably worth respecting and his MR CHILL may throw up more value. The gelding managed to finish within eight lengths of the winner at Stratford first time out despite his saddle slipping and he could come on for that.

A small field here but plenty arrive in decent form in a race that will take plenty of winning. Top-weight Chuvelo was impressive last time out when making all at Bangor and coming home seven lengths clear of his field for a comfortable victory but his stable could be in better form and he needs to improve again to win this deeper contest. Castel Gandolfo is another maiden winner who caught the eye with a smooth success at Fakenham. He looks to be going the right way, as does MAN OF LIGHT, who won his maiden at Bangor by an easy 11l and jumped far better in the main than when unseating at Newton Abbot on his previous start. He looks to be improving rapidly and could well be the one to beat here for trainer Philip Hobbs.

The Paul Nicholls trained Zoran has failed to transfer his ability from the Flat to hurdles but he is in the right hands and it may only be a matter of time before he starts to justify his 77,000 guineas purchase price. He steps up in trip after a 36l seventh at Sedgefield and is possibly best watched for now though he has ability and could yet spring a surprise. SEINESATIONAL was also pretty useful on the level and he looks ready to get off the mark over hurdles now after a solid fourth over shorter at Market Rasen. Natural Look is intriguing on his debut under Rules after a third in a Tipperary bumper and could surprise them all if building on that.

The much-loved Exitas turns out here under a 7lb penalty after scoring easily at Southwell last week at the age of 13, and who is to say he cannot follow up despite his advancing years. That was his first success since October 2018 and his first over hurdles since November 2014 so expecting another victory so soon could be asking too much. Hey Bud is interesting having his first start for Laura Hurley and he is beginning to look attractively handicapped off a rating of 100 if she can get him back to his better form of 2019. However, KILBREW BOY may well be able to give weight and a beating all round. Better handicapped over hurdles than he is over fences, he has gone down 1lb for a solid third at Ludlow last time out and with Charlie Case claiming 7lb in the saddle, he seems likely to win more races.
