Preview:

GOLDEN LYRIC and Messidor have plenty in common coming in here. Both were beaten when market leader last time out. Those respective efforts came on the turf, on surfaces generally described as soft. One would imagine that Golden Lyric and Messidor will be better suited by the polytrack. The fact that Golden Lyric is the one that we most recently witnessed, about a month ago at Naas, edges this observer in the direction of Mrs Harrington's runner. The Lope De Vega filly was second here in a barrier trial during the summer, and going up to seven furlongs now might not do her any harm either. The Coolmore crew have Ever A Dream (Johnny Murtagh) and Hair Of Gold (Fozzy Stack), but this pair will need to step up on what they've shown to date. Hopefully the betting will give us some clues as regards the newcomers.

Two for Darren Bunyan in here and the Curragh handler's BROKERS TIP is suggested. The Anjaal gelding has performed well for a couple of third placings since his attentions were turned to nursery company at this venue. A Phoenix Thoroughbred filly, Ablah, led him home last time, and there might not be anything as progressive among the opposition here. The selection's stable companion, Dreams Delivered, is not without a chance either, and similar sentiments apply to quite a few of them. With six of the runners fresh out of maiden company, the potential is surely there for a 'springer' or two in the market. Off an initial rating of 66, Al Rafiq might improve for the addition of a visor. He'll certainly need to.

A few in that bracket are tried in new equipment, including the aforementioned Hazard (blinkers). Grey Steak (71, now with a visor on) and Quiet Place (70, cheekpieces applied) are respected, as is Ola Bonita (72). For a selection though, STALINGRAD is put forward. Fozzy Stack's 71-performer showed up well when second over the course and distance 33 days back. Maybe the fitting of a tongue-strap can aid his cause on this occasion. The Kieran Cotter horses have become synonymous with speed and he pitches Clef De Voute and Okazoe in here. They could be longer term projects.
