There would be no more deserving winner than VILLANELLE, who has hit the crossbar on each of her last three appearances. The second of those runner-up efforts came over C&D, so the surface won't be an issue, and she can finally break her duck. Poucor has been busy hurdling, but may not be too badly treated in this sphere. Constraint hasn't fired since joining Kevin Philippart De Foy, but he will pop up before too long.

Sahara Spear was a position and four lengths in front of Ey Up Its The Boss when fourth on debut at Beverley but, on the same day, DEVIOUS ANGEL arguably made a more encouraging beginning to her career. The daughter of Cotai Glory showed up for a long way at Newmarket's Craven meeting and the experience will not be lost on her. Edinson Kevani outran odds of 28/1 to occupy the runner-up berth over C&D, but needs to step forward from that.

Harswell Princess has been running really well in defeat, but one of those losses came at the hands of TOM MIX. The Ivan Furtado-trained gelding left all previous form well behind when springing a 25/1 surprise here, with his improvement attributed to the application of cheekpieces and a switch to more positive tactics. He can prove it wasn't a fluke, although Harswell Princess will make him work for it again and Desert Mist isn't out of it either.

After completing a late summer/autumn hat-trick, CALL MY BLUFF's winning spree was brought to an end at Nottingham by classy hurdler Main Fact, who was exceptionally well treated on the level. Dominic Ffrench Davis' gelding should have even more to offer this year, but Eagle's Foot will test his mettle fully because he is on a three-timer of his own after signing off 2020 with a couple of Newcastle victories. Rayna's World is smart over timber and is weighted to make an impact on the Flat too.

DEFENCE TREATY began 2021 in fine form at this venue and then proved just as adept on turf when springing a 20/1 surprise at Redcar. Just 1lb higher here, he can follow up at the chief expense of Custard The Dragon, who gained just reward for a couple of second placings when comfortably justifying favouritism over C&D. Legal Reform has also been in great heart here, while Soaring Star's connections will have been encouraged by his comeback third at Leicester.

Arctic Emperor has a race-fitness edge on the selection and joins Grangeclare View on the shortlist.

SOCIOLOGIST has won and placed in both previous starts over C&D and makes plenty of appeal in the finale. The six-year-old boasts plenty of Fibresand experience and his latest second here off this mark was notice his turn is fast approaching. Beyond Infinity makes some appeal as the unexposed quantity in the race, while Visitant and Key Spirit are interesting after their respective layoffs.
