This looks to be a straight duel between the two Donald McCain-trained inmates, Minella Drama and MINELLA TRUMP, and it is the latter who edges the vote by way of chasing experience. The selection has had a profitable time of things over the last two months, with three straight wins over fences at Perth, and the 8lb he receives from his stablemate could be telling. Minella Drama was last seen chasing home the talented My Drogo in a Grade 1 hurdle at Aintree, but he was beaten first time out last season. Downtown Getaway is interesting on his first start for new connections.

Shamrock Wine is another to note for connections that do well here, while Ben Asker makes his England debut.

This can go the way of BILL AND BARN, who ran with plenty of credit for new connections on his return from a 576-day absence at Fontwell earlier in the month. Lightly raced for his age, the son of Presenting has had his issues but remains very well handicapped on old form. Cage Of Fear still looks to be finding his way with the Christian Williams stable and this drop in grade can help. Vocaliser and The Darley Lama could also figure.

In a typically competitive Durham National Brian Boranha makes his fourth appearance in a bid to win the race for the second time. He finished last season with an encouraging third here and it would be no surprise to see him in the mix, while last year's winner Red Giant cannot be ignored as he showed signs that he is coming back to form at Perth. However, HEWICK gets the vote as he has some strong form in the book and stayed on strongly when second over hurdles at Gowran Park last time, suggesting he will relish this marathon trip.

STORM LORENZO sets the standard in this contest after an encouraging start over hurdles when second to Bob's Bar at Hexham and this could be a good opportunity for him to get his head in front for the first time. Brian Ellison has two interesting contenders in Baltic Baron and Salsada, the former didn't show much on his first start over obstacles when fifth at this venue in August and interestingly his next outing was in the Cambridgeshire. The latter looks an interesting recruit to hurdles after showing some smart form on the Flat and she could be dangerous.
