NOT A ROLE MODEL made it back-to-back victories when switched to hurdles at Fakenham and Sam Thomas' nine-year-old can round out a hat-trick off a 5lb higher rating. Aintree My Dream has been in great form over fences this season and is of real interest reverting to timber, while Eaton Hill searches for some compensation following a disqualification at Doncaster. He crossed the line in first on that occasion but was disqualified for weighing in light, and the form of that race has been well advertised by Ecco (finished second, placed first) since.

Paul Nicholls has won this twice since 2013 and could taste further success with PRESENT MAN, who relishes a sound surface and is only 1lb higher than when triumphant at Chepstow earlier in the season. Shantou Village was fourth on that occasion and attempts to get back on track for 2019's winning handler Neil Mulholland. Sir Ivan and Valadom have both regularly performed with credit this term and are also considered.

Paul Nicholls has a great record in this and saddles both Capeland and Grade 2-winning hurdler Grand Sancy, with the latter having a great chance on his first run in handicap company over the larger obstacles. Gala Ball is only 3lb higher than when second in this a couple of years ago, while Killer Clown waltzed away with a competitive Kempton handicap on Boxing Day and has to be considered despite a severe 15lb hike. However, it might pay to side with the upwardly mobile UMBRIGADO, who has relished the switch to fences and stayed on well to make it back-to-back victories at Wetherby. A 5lb rise is fair and the return to 2m4f is likely to suit.

JAVA POINT rattled the crossbar over 2m4f at Uttoxeter in November and has strong claims off the same mark. If he is tapped for toe over this shorter distance, Runswick Bay could be the one to capitalise. He needs to leave behind his last run at Kempton, when pulling up over 2m5f, but he won over an extended 2m at Taunton previously. Sopran Thor and Takeit Easy also merit inclusion on the shortlist.

Barring accidents, this should go to the exciting HITMAN. He still travelled powerfully when falling at the 12th in the Grade 1 Scilly Isles at Sandown and had done little wrong prior to that, winning effortlessly at Ffos Las before chasing home Arkle fancy Allmankind in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase. His main danger, and stablemate, Getaway Trump has a preferred engagement at Doncaster, so Colonel Custard can beat Captain Cuckoo to second spot in what is likely to be a three-runner race.
