BOMB SQUAD was an impressive winner at Redcar 10 days ago and that performance suggests that he could be hard to beat once again today, despite having to carry a 6lb penalty for that victory. Jazzy Socks is an obvious threat having got off the mark at Newcastle recently, while Imperial Dawn and Marta Boy are others who merit places on the shortlist.

Orgetorix sets the standard having won a competitive contest at York last month but he could be vulnerable under a 4lb penalty today. With that in mind, preference is for VITRUVE, who caught the eye when finishing fourth on his debut at Newmarket. The son of Toronado was green on that occasion but stayed on well at the finish and he should improve significantly for that experience. Oz Legend is a full-brother to the Group 3 winner Patrick Sarsfield and the 135,000gns-purchase merits plenty of respect on his debut.

Barn Owl took a big step forwards last time and the son of Frankel could give the selection plenty to think about if finding some more improvement. First Light is a newcomer to note being the first foal out of a Listed-placed mare, while Crane is from the family of the dual Oaks winner Sariska.

The step up to a mile looks set to suit USS NIMITZ, who kept on well for a silver medal on his handicap bow at Newcastle and the booking of William Buick in the saddle suggests a bold bid is likely for Mark Johnston's youngster. Menai Bridge was a winner over course and distance on his penultimate outing before disappointing in soft ground at Nottingham last time. The return to the all-weather can suit and a bounce back could be on the cards, while Shady Mcgee is another track-and-trip scorer to consider, not disgraced when a close-up fourth at Wolverhampton recently. Dream Chaser was handed a 5lb rise for a neck defeat over course and distance last month and is another who could make his presence felt.

Running Cloud, who drops back from 1m6f, is also worth considering.
