Preview:

An open-looking contest but it would be no surprise if MARAAKIZ is better than his current mark. William Haggas' thrice-raced gelding looked a bit rusty returning from a seven-month layoff over 7f at Leicester last month, but that blow-out should have brought him on and this step up in trip may now allow him to deliver on the promise he showed when winning a maiden on the all-weather in the autumn. Bowland Park and Cosmos Raj, progressive winners at Epsom and Newmarket respectively, also warrant consideration despite rising marks.

Thibaan has taken a bit of time to fully come to hand but he looked the part when keeping on stoutly to score over C&D last time out. He is bound to attract support in his follow-up bid off just a 3lb higher mark, but he may be worth taking on with Hamilton maiden winner FANTASTIC FOX, who did well to finish a close third at Ascot last time considering he was unsuited by the sedate gallop. He remains potentially well treated off an unchanged mark and a likely stronger pace here will see him to better effect. Dubai Mirage, fourth in a hotly-contested handicap at York last time, is another obvious player if recovered from those exertions.

Competitive stuff but ELOQUENT ARTHUR was a real eye-catcher when a runner-up over 6f at Windsor last time out and remains of interest off an unchanged mark. On that evidence - he did all of his best work late - Richard Hannon's three-year-old should appreciate this return to 7f and there remains a chunk of improvement in him. Chookie Dunedin hinted at a return to form when fourth at Ayr last time and has to enter the equation considering he won off this mark at Wetherby earlier in the campaign, while last month's C&D winner Sucellus shouldn't be written off considering he had excuses for a dismal run at Chester last time.

Sir Michael Stoute's POTAPOVA found the the Group 1 Coronation Stakes too much last time (never quite settled) but the mere fact that her esteemed trainer felt she warranted a tilt at such a prize suggests she could be cut above this field. Prior to that, she had looked electric in recording wide-margin wins at Chelmsford and Redcar and winning a Listed event in receipt of a weight-for-age allowance shouldn't prove beyond her. Group 3 winner Maamora would be an obvious danger if returning to anything like her best form, whilst Waliyak, third in a Group 3 at Ascot last time, may also prove troublesome.

Saeed bin Suroor's Godolphin runners are flying at present and it's hard to look beyond the exciting REAL WORLD here. The Dark Angel colt has improved out of all recognition since switching to the turf this year, winning Ascot's Royal Hunt Cup and a Newbury Listed event with masses up his sleeve, and he could feasibly be good enough to win at the very top level. Three-time Group 3 winner Euchen Glen has looked as good as ever this season and is a tough, durable opponent who won't go down without a fight, while Foxes Tales followed his Royal Ascot handicap win with a good second off a mark of 102 at Newmarket and remains progressive.

Acquisitor has been well placed by Philip Kirby to rattle off a hat-trick but he didn't appear to win with too much to spare at Chester last time and, after a further 2lb rise, this better race may be where the fun ends. Similar comments apply to Russco, who has has shot up 11lb for back-to-back all-weather wins which might mean any value lies with NORTHBOUND. Julie Camacho's gelding was friendless in the market on his first foray over 7f at Thirsk last time and, despite sweating up heavily, had enough about him to keep on well for third of 16. He is likely capable of better than that and an unchanged mark of 65 perhaps underestimates him.

It's hard to rule anything out of this but the progressive NORTHERN EXPRESS produced such a searing turn of foot to swoop late at York last time out that a 7lb rise may not be quite enough to anchor him over the same 7f trip. In contrast, Gioia Cieca was made to work hard to edge out Tadreeb in an all-out finish Musselburgh last time but he remains of interest despite a rising mark, as does Il Bandito, who has notched three successive seconds since scoring cosily from 5lb lower over this C&D earlier in the season on ground with some cut.
