Valsheda finished second at Doncaster on debut in January for Nicky Henderson, though he was beaten far enough there (29 lengths) and needs to step forward in order to go one better. Party Fuzz outran 66/1 odds to finish third at Warwick three weeks ago and deserves greater respect this time, while Falloway Dubreau was beaten at odds-on in a Fakenham bumper last month but looked to find that too sharp. HENRY GONDOFF concedes a 6lb penalty for his Wetherby win earlier this year, but he was impressive there and this isn't the strongest of novice events.

This Breac claimed his first win since the corresponding 2020 fixture at Leicester last month but will find this harder up in distance off 5lb higher. Massini Man fell when in contention at Southwell before Christmas but has been given 86 days to get over that, although the safest option in this contest might be recent Lingfield jumpers' bumper scorer JARLATH. His confidence looks high after recording form figures of 121 in three starts so far this year and the 10-year-old is 3lb lower than his last winning mark over fences. Five Star Getaway won at Wincanton six days ago and is interesting under a 7lb penalty.

KILLER KANE seemed to tire on testing ground when finishing fourth here last month, but these conditions look more appropriate and the Oscar gelding is much better judged on his second at Aintree on Rules debut in October. The 300,000 pounds purchase won a point-to-point a year ago and could be suited by having Harry Cobden ride for the first time. Our Surprise finished third on stable/Rules debut in a bumper for Harry Fry three weeks ago, while recent Chepstow runner-up Not Sure is also worth keeping on side.

John Constable thrives on decent ground and is on a tempting mark, but he isn't getting any younger at the age of 10 and hasn't won since July 2017. Paxman might find this a challenge after 742 days off but needs a market check on stable debut for Fergal O'Brien. It could be worth taking a chance on MAKETY, who has hit the frame in five of her last six starts over hurdles. The seven-year-old is now with Colin Heard and has performed well fresh in the past.

Expected to have been well schooled in preparation for his chase debut, given his connections, and now with Harry Cobden back in the plate, Paul Nicholls' charge can get back on track. Aye Aye Charlie has had a break and makes appeal on his Hereford second in October, while Larkbarrow Lad is another to note.
