Preview:

WETLANDS justified odds-on favouritism without much fuss in maiden company at Ayr and can follow up after some slick jumping there. The six-year-old will be tough to beat if running to his official rating of 125 and appeals more than Gulliver Collonges, who was third in a Fontwell bumper in November and should appreciate hurdles. Malpas would have probably won at Catterick last month but for falling at the last and completes the shortlist.

LEX TALIONIS remains a maiden after 14 starts over fences, but he has recorded plenty of decent efforts in defeat and remains open to improvement after just four outings for Oliver Greenall. A mark of 101 is surely within range, and testing ground could play to this dour stayer's strengths. Mance Rayder has had excuses for poor efforts the last twice and is only 6lb above his last winning mark, while Newlands Cross makes just his second start for Christian Williams and could also be involved.

VELASCO ran a big race in defeat to finish second behind Optimise Prime at Hereford in December and with that winner being aimed at the Sidney Banks later this week, the form might be worth following. Tom Lacey's charge has enough pace to cope with this drop in distance and he did win a point-to-point on soft ground. Crack Du Ninian deserves obvious respect having won two of his last three, while Hart Of Steel has been in a rich vein of form and could also hit the frame.

Overcourt performed well on his fencing bow at Sedgefield and should be thereabouts, likewise O'Hanrahan Bridge.

Attempting to give these rivals weight and a beating will be no easy task, but NELLS SON has created good impressions on similar ground at Doncaster and Ayr so far and appeals as the one they all have to beat. For Fitz Sake won a point-to-point in December and the booking of Adam Wedge is a big positive on his Rules debut. Chances are also given to Harryjoejoe and One Fer Mamma.
