In an open race, preference is for CHINESE SPIRIT, who returned to winning ways over a mile at Carlisle earlier in the week. The seven-year-old is a previous winner over this C&D and a 4lb penalty for that victory on Monday may not be enough to stop him this evening. Lucky Violet scored over this track and trip a couple of starts ago and she was not disgraced at Musselburgh last time. Others to note are Retirement Beckons, Havana Go and Flying Moon.

BRIDGETOWN stands out as an unexposed sort in this company, with a mark of 60 looking somewhat lenient on handicap debut after a close-up second at Doncaster back in June. With more improvement surely forthcoming, he can take this from the likes of Captain Jameson, who has been on a long winless streak but has been shaping well of late. More is thought of Bannow than what he has been able to show so far on track, while Iris Dancer is also of strong interest.

Ayr Poet has been a consistent performer this year and looks capable of making an impact now dropping in class, while Red Bond has seen his mark plummet since the start of the year and, judged on his latest fifth at this track, may also be capable of getting involved.

Although the majority of these candidates are newcomers, experience may be able to guide KENTUCKY ROSE to a first victory. The Kevin Ryan-trained filly has been edging in the right direction on her two outings and it would be no surprise should she shed the maiden tag at the third time of asking. Mark Johnston rarely gives debutants a hood, but Intriguing Lady is the exception of the rule and she warrants close consideration. John Quinn boasts a respectable record with juveniles at this venue so Bitcoin Ranger completes the shortlist.

He has to be considered in this, though ROSE BANDIT is marginally preferred. Iain Jardine's filly has gone from strength to strength this season, winning here and at Hamilton, and showed her progression has not ended when getting within half a length of success last time. The consistent Lord Of The Glen completes the shortlist.

The four-year-old still looks to be well treated and can defy a 2lb rise. King Of Tonga is lurking on a tempting mark and could be the main danger if building his on Redcar performance. Tanasoq recently caught the eye at Hamilton and has to be respected, now stepping up in distance.
