A competitive opener could go the way of last year's Queen Alexandra winner, WHO DARES WINS. Alan King's charge was touched off by a neck at Wolverhampton last month and although he has a 2lb rise to overcome, he's a C&D winner and is expected to hold his own. Carnwennan remains on a workable mark and is another with solid course form in the book, though he was held by Island Brave in December. Rare Groove is worth a market check now back from a long absence, while Notation is completely unexposed over 2m.

MADEEH beat subsequent winner King Of The South when scoring over C&D in January and followed up himself here 19 days ago. Phil Kirby's charge has a 4lb rise to contend with but is fully expected to complete a hat-trick. My Girl Maggie has been in great order on Tapeta at Wolverhampton this winter and could emerge as the main danger, while first-time cheekpieces could liven up Great Esteem, who picked up the bronze medal behind the selection here in January.

Mark Johnston representative KEHAILAAN shaped with an abundance of promise when runner-up over 1m here on debut two weeks ago and is expected to build on that effort, now he has the benefit of a run behind him, now granted this stiffer test. Countessa should be all the wiser for the experience gained on debut at Chelmsford and can battle it out with David Simcock's Onesmoothoperator, who sports a hood on debut but changed hands for 140,000 pounds last summer, for the silver medal.

CULTURE was a model of consistency for Tom Ward on the all-weather this winter and, now rated 4lb higher than when scoring by a neck over 1m4f at Kempton on his penultimate outing, he's worth monitoring closely in the betting now debuting for Jedd O'Keeffe. The Trader went close off 1lb higher at Wolverhampton in December and isn't weighted out of this, though a bigger danger may be Songkran, who was touched off by just a neck off this mark over 1m4f at Lingfield on Saturday.

Ursa Minor represents Saturday's Winter Derby-winning trainer/jockey/owner combination and is sure to thereabouts in first-time blinkers, but preference is for IMPERIAL COMMAND. His C&D win last month was impressive and he's now 2-3 at this track, so can continue to improve. Of the others, Asdaa and Silver Dust deserve plenty of respect with the latter a three-time distance scorer.

Over the same C&D and off just 5lb higher, the son of Lawman is expected to go in again as he is completely unexposed over 1m and has only had the four runs. Rocambole and the consistent Cuban Cigar are the main dangers.

DUTCH DECOY has top weight in the finale but is open to more improvement on all-weather and rarely runs a bad race. He accounted for Daafr (third) when finishing second over C&D two starts ago and that piece of form looks strong because the winner has won again since. Two wins from six starts on synthetic surfaces, the Dutch Art gelding might have too much class for last month's course second The Great Heir.
